Today we have a very special guest. With impressive reviews of his Lessons EP and a strong new EP, Symphonia with remixes by Claude Von Stroke and Tomas Barfod, James Braun has definitely put himself as one of the major names on the Danish tech house scene.
This is what James has been listening to the past week.

Firstly, here’s an older piece by San Proper (and Steven De Peven) who will play at my release for Symphonia at Dunkel on March 27. It’s pretty chilled but the chord progression always gets me. Excellent stuff.

Cottam is an up and coming producer from the UK, which I’m sure we’ll be hearing a lot more from in the future. He makes slow house music, heavily sampling hip hop, soul and african roots music not unlike Theo Parrish’ early work, but with his own unique touch. This one makes any day of the week a little sunnier.

Anthony ‘Shake’ Shakir recently released a 4×12″ of some of his best tracks from the years 1994-2009. Apart from the timelessness of the tracks it is a great introduction to his body of work and house and techno in general. Highly recommended.

Here’s an older track from Basic Soul Unit who recently gained a lot of recognition from his track on one of the Panorama Bar releases. He’s been doing old school house since before it became fashionable and really well at that!

I just recently rediscovered this track by infamous producer Omar-S from one of the best records ever made, ‘Just Ask The Lonely’. You can love or you can hate Omar-S, but he always does whatever he wants. That’s why I love him. Long time.

This might be the most banging banger of the seven, ‘The Climax’ by Carl Craig moniker Paperclip People. His track ‘Throw’ got a revival a couple of years back but if you pick up his ‘The Secret Tapes Of Dr. Eich’ you might find some more.

Going on Saturday morning, you might find yourself half dreaming, half spacing out to this one. Substance & Vainqueur’s ‘Libration’ is an amazing dub techno track and I suggest picking up the whole Basic Channel back catalogue if you want more.

Last night we had a blast at the Copenhagen Jazzhouse!
Jean von Baden invited us to a great setup with live performances by weird drummer/performer Kalles World Tour and the ultra cool Danish band WhoMadeWho.

After the warmup by Kalle and his crazy stage show WhoMadeWho gave a terrific performance playing great tracks and a few covers, Satisfaction by Benny Benassi among others. Their energy was fantastic and the stage performance was great! A big up to Jean von Baden for bringing the trio to Jazzhouse!

It’s Friday again and this week we are back to normal. No fancy celebs picking the tracks it’s just us, your favorite blog and we bring you the best to get the weekend started!

Starting with a Danish indie rock duo, The Raveonettes. The duo consists of Sharin Foo and Sune Rose Wagner where the latter released a brilliant 2008 self-entitled album. As a duo they released their 4th studio album in 2009, In and Out of Control. The first single “Last Dance” has been remixed by New York-based kap10kurt.

If you digg tracks with kiddie voices you’re gonna love this next one. Ricardo Villalobos is a Chilean-German DJ and producer doing mostly minimal house. The track is simply called “Enfants” (french for kids) and was originally over 17 minutes long. It has been called “a great tool for DJ’s” and “remarkably catchy”. Danish Michael JT did a great remix and cut the track down to a little less than 12 and a half minute.

We Have Band is a Brit indie pop band famous for the single “Oh!”. Co-Pilot did a funky Flying High Edit of “Honeytrap”. The track is filled with breaking beats and is great dance floor material!

Another British band, Editors, is about to start their March 2010 UK Tour. From their latest album In This Light and On This Evening we find the single “Papillion” (again french – butterfly). It reached #1 on the Belgium chart (what gives). The Japanese Popstars who I know from their awesome remix of The Ting Thins’ “Be The One” (go see Friday Bangers (week 20 – 2009)) did a spectacular remix pumping up the bass and making the track a true banger!

The Asteroids Galaxy Tour brings us the last way-too-short track this Friday. With the depressing title “The Sun Ain’t Shining No More” and with help from German Thomas Gold they give us the most intense nearly three minute party with bits of soul, funk and electronic dance.

Sousa/Schmidt is a Danish DJ-duo and you can usually find them on Rust at Thursdays when Rust goes bad and turns into the Villains Club (who just celebrated its 1 year anniversary hooray!). But they play gigs at many clubs around Copenhagen.
A few weeks ago we asked them what tracks they are playing and this is what they sent us.

Carlos Sanchez & DJ Ray – Like
Et virkeligt stemningsfyldt og velkomponeret nummer fra de to spanske øboere.
Yderst dansabel deep-house, som i øjeblikket kravler de fleste toneangivende charts.

Boris Werner – Free Your Body
I øjeblikket en af genrens store fornyere. Med friske takes på housemusik og hitskæringer kraftigt influeret af disco og swing er Boris Werner en mand man skal holde øje med i fremtiden. Tjek evt. også Can’t Let Go.

Guti – Mr. Good Vibes
Endnu et bevis på de latinamerikanske traditioners indtog i housemusik.
Et virkeligt groovy nummer med alt hvad der hører med, af rullende bas, latinpercussion og i det hele taget et meget organisk lydbillede.

Gabriele Baldi – She Comes Back (Anton Pieete Groove Remix)
En spritny udgivelse fra det ligeledes nye label Bitten, skabt af Sandy Huner og 2000 And One. De har kun udgivet ganske få ep’er, men det lader til at være et label man skal holde øje med.
Gabriele Baldis originalversion af nummeret er egentlig lidt kedeligt, men den gode Hr. Pieete har hevet nogle fantastiske fede ol school lyde frem og har, som titlen antyder, groovet nummeret betydeligt op.

Yakine – Drop It
En dissideret banger fra Frankrigs unge stjerneskud Yakine. Han har på kun et år kravlet ned i pladetaskerne hos de største DJs verden over, og er, sammen med Okain, blevet kaldt en af de vigtigste blandt den nye generation af franske house producere.
