Distortion aftermath
by Foss

So Distortion is over by a few weeks and I’m starting to feel normal again. It was a few blasting days that blew everybody’s mind I think.
Who could have expected a growth by over 100 %?
Let me first comment on the obvious: In my opinion the festival was too well visited. Especial in inner Copenhagen it got somewhat uncomfortable with the huge crowds and little space. As commented on in other medias the toilet conditions were inadequate, but what to do? The perfect weather meant many more people that counted for.
Another thing is the raging deficit the Distortion festival is facing. It’s a problem that the street parties have become the main attraction instead of the nice club events in the evening. It’s a problem that the guys behind Distortion must address and try to handle for the next few years. Who is going to pay for indoor club events is the party continues (legal or not) in the streets in the hot summer night.
When all this is said I had an amazing Distortion. Wednesday was, as I pointed out, a bit too crowded for me. But I especially enjoyed the blasting sound in front of Jazzhouse and I hope that Jean Von Baden will put up those Funktion One speakers again next year because they blew my mind!
Thursday was Nørrebro and I had a gig of my own. The mood was great even though people were hung over. We started out in the soft cool grass at Blågårdsplads and from there the music started pumping getting us all in a party mood. From there we visited a few of the hot spots like Skt. Hans Torv and Elmegade. Again the crowd was huge but the mood was good. I ended up at one of Copenhagen’s best cocktail bars, Kassen.
Friday morning was a tough one. Still half drunk, half hung over I headed to a grill party at a TAGTERESSE at Nørrebro. We needed a few hours away from the huge crows. From there we grabbed a bus heading for Vesterbro. What met us was just incredible. The entire Søndre Boulevard was packed with amps, speakers and DJ’s playing the most awesome music. It seemed like one big party even though you could walk 20 meters and meet a new set of amps, speakers and DJ’s playing different music. The place was just boiling with party and again I must say that considering the number of people gathered at such a small place the mood was great! I must admit that I have a few black outs this evening but as i recall I ended up with a few friends at Italian restaurant Al Mercante for one heck of an afterparty.
Saturday morning didn’t exist. I got home, grabbed a few hours of sleep and went back to the guys from the afterparty last night. Saturday was the big finale night at DGI Byen. So we warmed up and reminisced about the past few days and how spectacular they had been. We god back to Vesterbro and the place was still boiling! We went inside the fences to DGI Byen and what met us was mayhem! A maze of paths and different pop-up venues. The great center piece was the Hall in the middle and it was pumping. With only a few hours of sleep we decided to call it an early night and went home at 4-ish, but the rest of Vesterbro kept the party alive and rumor has it that the party bus that was inside DGI Byen kept the party going and then drove to Islands Brygge where the Sunday chill out would be. I never got to experience Sunday, I was in too much need of sleep. That’s what Distortion will do to you!
Thanks for this year, I’ll definitely see you next year!
